Well-known organization ESSA that is confronting match-fixing in sport competitions published its report of 2016. Report contained information about the volume of match-fixing. ESSA has also revealed the most corrupted type of sport and the most corrupted region where match-fixing is flourishing.
According to the ESSA data, 130 cases of match-fixing took place during the twelve months of 2016. To compare, in 2012 only 6 cases of match-fixing took place. The most corrupted type of sport is tennis where 102 cases of match-fixing took place (79% of the total amount). In football 12 cases of match-fixing were registered.
71 case of match-fixing was registered in European countries, 25 – in Asia, 15 – in the South America, 12 – in Africa, 7 – in the North America.
However, the biggest amount of bets on match-fixing was registered in Аsia. Important cash flows go through this region, but it is quite difficult to trace the sources. So, the problem is becoming more and more serious.
