Yesterday, probably the most unexpected defeat was the one of the main favorite, Milos Raonic, disappointing us all with his weak performance, but also the new defeat of Fognini ruined our plans. Today, 17 October 2014, will take place the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup, where we will be seeing the matches between: R.Berankis – R.Bautista-Agut, E.Gulbis – A.Seppi, M.Youzhny – M.Kukushkin and T.Robredo – M.Cilic. We will again offer three tips, hoping to have more chances than yesterday.

The one who probably succeeded the most important victory in his entire career after defeating Raonic in three sets is the Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis, a player who came after the qualifying stages and is currently sat in 116th place in the ATP table. Berankis again takes on a powerful opponent, the Spanish player Roberto Bautista-Agut, ranked 16. Berankis and Bautista have met twice before, on hard court, each winning a match. On the hard indoor court, Berankis has this year no less than 17 victories and only 5 defeats, even though most of them took place in the Challenger tournament, while Bautista has only played for matches, winning three of them. In our opinion, Berankis will throw in a good show and we expect him to rise to the level of Bautista, at least in a set, considering that in the match against Raonic he hasn’t lost at all his serve in the first and third set, even more, he managed to obtain four breaks from a player that rarely loses his serve. Likewise, in the two direct matches played, the Lithuanian won each time at least a set.

Tommy Robredo – Marin Cilic >>>>> Victory Marin Cilic

The Spanish Tommy Robredo and Marin Cilic have met six times before, each winning three matches. The last match between them took place this year at Umag, in Cilic’s home country, where Robredo dominated two sets in a surprising way. This time, we bet on the victory of the Croatian, who, just like Robredo, is at the second participation in this tournament at Moscow. Our argument for choosing this tip is based on the wish of the player who won the US Open to take revenge, considering that he was defeated in his favorite tournament. Likewise, the match will be hold on the hard indoor court where Cilic has an impressing record this year, ten victories and a single defeat. On the other hand, the two matches played in this tournament are the only ones this year that the Spanish player had had on the hard indoor court. On the hard court, Robredo hasn’t been able to defeat Cilic yet, out of all the three chances and he probably won’t do it today.

Ernests Gulbis – Andreas Seppi >>>>> Victory Ernests Gulbis

This is an extremely interesting duel between Ernests Gulbis and Andreas Seppi, a match that represent their seventh meeting. Gulbis dominates, winning their last year’s direct match at Indian Wells with 4-1, where the Latvian dominated three sets. Gulbis is now making a comeback, after not being lately the player who defeated Federer in Paris, eliminating Gimeno-Traver with a score of 2-0. Being the number 3 favorite, it was not needed for him to play in the first leg, unlike Seppi who defeated Dusan Lajovic and Ivan Dodig. The hard indoor court is one of the favorite surfaces of the Latvian, succeeding this year ten victories and losing only two matches, while his opponent has only won two matches from all the eight played. Gulbis will need to force himself for this particular match, but he is the favorite and he should dominate the game.
