Oklahoma Gin is a very similar to Gin Rummy, a popular game that has managed to attract millions of players from all over the world. The main difference between Oklahoma Gin and Gin Rummy is that in the first game the first card determines the maximum deadwood count that a player must have in order to knock. You must know that Oklahoma Gin can be played by 2-4 players using one single deck of cards without jokers. Each player receives 10 cards if there are only 2 players or 7 cards if there are 3-4 players.

The goal of Oklahoma Gin is to be the first player that manages to meld the majority of cards in hand and to have a low deadwood count. The deadwood count represents that cards that cant be melded. As you can see, Oklahoma Gin has the same goal as Gin Rummy.

In this game, a player must make three moves: draw a card from the deck or from the discard pile, lay down the melds into the melding zone and discard a card into the discard pile.

A meld is represented by sets and runs. If you don’t know what these terms mean then we must inform you:

set=3 or more cards from the same rank;
run=3 or more consecutive cards from the same suit.

The value of the cards:

Royal cards: 10 points;
Ace: 1 point;
The rest of the cards have the value of the face numbers.

Oklahoma Gin can end if it’s used one of the following 3 moves:

Gin: a player manages to for melds from all the cards in hand and lay them down.
Knock: a player lays down valid melds and it has a deadwood count equal or lower than 10.
Undercut: a player adds cards to knockers meld and lower the deadwood count.

The first card determines the maximum deadwood count that a player must have in order to knock.
