Portugal Primeira Liga betting tips, Stage 21 (season 2014/2015)

On Friday, the 13th of February 2015, starts the 21st stage of Portugal Primeira Liga and all the matches will be played in four days. Benfica, Porto and Sporting are currently sat on the first three places in the ranking, while Braga and Guimaraes are also on places that take to the European Cups. In the following lines we present for each match a tip.

Our tip suggestions

FC Porto – Guimaraes >>> European Handicap FC Porto -1.0

Porto are currently sat on the second place in the ranking and they come from three consecutive victories in all the championships. All of them were obtained at minimum two goals margin. If we take into consideration the home matches, then the situation is encouraging for the hosts: five victories in a row at handicap in which they scored 19 times and received only two goals. Guimaraes are not weak opponents and are sat on the fifth place in the first Portuguese league, but normally they shouldn’t be able to resist against Julen Lopetegui’s team. We bet on the victory at two goals margin.

Gil Vicente – Paços Ferreira >>> Paços Ferreira (0)

Both teams come from victories with the same score of 2-1, but they have a different situation in the ranking. The hosts are on the penultimate place in the ranking, with only 14 points while their opponents occupy the seventh place with 29 points and they can still hope for a place in the European Cup at the end of the season (even if at this point they are seven points apart from the first place that leads to the European matches). Overall, the visitors inspire us more trust, especially that Gil Vicente hasn’t takes so far the advantage of the home pitch, having a single victory in front of their own fans (1/5/4). We choose the tip Paços Ferreira (0) which means that the guests need to win, but you receive your sum back in case of a tie.

Odds: 1.60
Stake: 8/10

Belenenses – Sporting Lisabona >>> European Handicap Belenenses + 2.0

This is the local derby between Belenenses and Sporting. The hosts are currently sat on the sixth place in the ranking and they hope to win a place in the European Cup while Sporting already are on the podium, three points behind FC Porto and seven behind Benfica. The bookmakers offer the guests as favorites with odds of only 1.48 for an eventual victory, but we don’t know how tempting this tip is. Only two teams ever left Estádio do Restelo this season with all the three points and Sporting have a tougher match as it seems at first. The two teams have met on the 21st of January in the League Cup when Belenenses won with the score of 3-2 although they were led with 0-2 since the 18th minute. A good tip for this meeting is Belenenses +1.5, which means that the hosts need to win, tie or not lose at more than a goal margin.

Rio Ave – Moreirense >>> Rio Ave (0)

These two teams are four points apart in the ranking, the advantage being on the hosts’ side. We trust more Rio Ave for this match, considering that they play well on their own pitch. Arouca are the only ones who won on Estádio do Rio Ave this season, the hosts having up to now five victories and the nil nil draws in front of their own fans. More than this, Moreirense are not in a good shape and they come from four consecutive defeats, three in the championship and one in League Cup. We bet on the victory of the hosts with a refundable stake in case of a tie.

Odds: 1.50
Stake: 9/10

Penafiel – Maritimo >>> Tie

Penafiel are the weakest team from the first league with only 13 points and they don’t seem capable of defeating anyone at this moment. Their last victory dates to the 12th stage and since then they have only obtained three points in seven rounds. Maritimo are not a strong team, especially on an away pitch where they have up to now six points (1/2/7). Thus it is hard to choose a favorite for such a match and we wouldn’t be surprised if at the end of the 90 minutes the score will be at a tie.

Odds: 3.15

Coimbra – Boavista >>> Under 1.5 goals Coimbra

This is a duel from the lower half of the ranking, between the 16th place, Coimbra and the 13th place Boavista. The hosts have a single victory this season, being a real champion of ties: 11. The main problem was when closing the match, Paulo Sérgio’s team scoring only 12 times (the weakest attack). In half of the matches they didn’t score and only three times were they able to score twice. Under these conditions, it will probably be hard for Boavista not to score more than a goal, especially that they came thinking to defend themselves, a tie being to their advantage more than for their opponents.

Stake: 9/10

Benfica – Setubal >>> Benfica win without receiving a goal

This is an unbalanced match between Benfica and Setubal. The hosts are the leaders in the first league with 50 points gathered (16/2/2) and they have an impressing average of 45-9 goals. Their opponents only gathered 19 points, currently being sat on the 14th place with an average of 16-32 goals, four being scored against Rio Ave. From 11 defeats, nine were suffered without scoring and we don’t have a reason to believe that they couldn’t win. In the first leg, Benfica crushed their opponents on their own pitch with the score of 5-0, Talisca managing a hat-trick.

Odds: 1.75
Stake: 8/10

Braga – Arouca >>> Braga win without receiving a goal

As we anticipated at the beginning of the season, Braga had a good performance and this is because they made a few interesting transfers over the summer. The team coached by Sérgio Conceição come from three consecutive victories (two in the championship and one in the League Cup) and are currently sat on the fourth place in the league. They impressed on their own pitch, where they won seven of the nine matches had (7/1/1). Only a few teams managed to win some points on Estádio AXA from Braga, but only three managed to score. Arouca are a pretty modest team who scored in only four of the ten away matches had this season and it is not excluded for them to lose the Sunday match without scoring a single goal.

Odds: 2.00
Stake: 7/10

Nacional Funchal – Estoril Praia >>> Over 2.5 goals

The bookmakers consider that there are high chances for this match to be under 2.5 goals, but we don’t agree. When they met, the two teams offers us pretty spectacular matches, so each one of the last five matches had a minimum of three goals scored and the last four were with both teams scoring. Nacional Funchal come from a spectacular tie against Arouca (3-3). Likewise, in a ranking of goals scored, the two are at a tie with an average of 2.65 and 11 matches with over 2.5 goals. They are also at a tie in the ranking where they share the ninth place with 25 points.

Odds: 2.15
Stake: 7/10
