Irish news sources are reporting that John Boyle, the Founder and CEO of independent bookmaker Boylesports is preparing to officially announce his retirement as leader of the firm he founded in 1982.
It has been reported that Boyle (61) plans to announce his CEO successor ‘from within his family’. Boyle will maintain a governance position within Boylesports retaking the role of Executive Chairman.
“I’ve been CEO now since 2012, and that’s not my gig. My gig was retail and going out and finding stores. But I’ve gone in and I’ve enjoyed it for five years. I’m ready this year to step back from the frontline of being leader,” Boyle told the Sunday Independent.
At present Boyle’s daughters, Orla and Jenna hold senior executive positions within the firm, accompanied by son-in-law Conor Gray the firm’s current Director of International Development.
Boylesports is Ireland’s second largest bookmaker, with a retail betting portfolio of + 200 betting shops nationwide. Whoever takes over leadership of the firm, will likely be tasked with growing the firm’s UK footprint a core ambition of John Boyle.
In 2014, John Boyle detailed to the media, that he was actively looking for his CEO replacement in order to take Boylesports to the saturated UK betting market.
Boyle stated that it was unlikely that his firm could continue to grow within the Irish betting market, in which it had reached peak penetration.
