out by april betfair makes drastic cut to theresas resignation oddsby Joker 31.01.2018 0 comments
Betfair Politics has drastically reduced the odds on PM Theresa May departing 10 Downing Street in 2018, as Conservative Party rifts continue to rock the government’s Brexit negotiations strategy.
The Times has reported that high-ranking Tory donors have demanded that May resign, due to her ‘tortoise approach to delivering Brexit’.
PM May is currently visiting China, seeking to discuss future trade relations, but at home influential party donors, are currently debating whether a fresh face is needed to lead the Party.
Updating market, Katie Baylis, Betfair Spokesperson, said: “With unrest and concerns from Tory Party backers about the lack of direction over Brexit, Theresa May is once again under pressure and she is now 11/10 on Betfair Exchange to go this year”.
“Many of our punters don’t think she’ll last long either, with odds of 11/2 that she’ll be gone by April, in from 35/1 earlier this month”.
Although, PM May’s party leadership may look untenable, to date, no party member has put forward a firm bid to takeover Party leadership, leaving UK political commentators to question whether anyone wants to lead the all-encompassing Brexit negotiations.
“Jacob Rees-Mogg is still the 5/1 favourite to take over the leadership, with Boris Johnson at 6/1, but the big mover in the next leader market is Gavin Williamson, the man regarded as one of the most ambitious of the Tories. He’s already stolen the headlines this year and he’s 17/1 from 600/1 last year to take over.”
