Types of sports bets explained – Beginners`s guide

In the following lines we will help beginners in sports betting to understand more the football bets placed, just as other articles will be dedicated to other sports. There is no secret that football is the most popular sport and the most beloved one from the entire world, followed and played by billions of people.

There definitely are many sports fans that have not tried to bet yet because they see it as too complicated and many of us did not know at the beginning what each type of bets mean. So, here we will explain the main bets and not only.

Main bets

Full time result – this type of bet is one of the simplest. You have three options, 1, x and 2.
1 – the hosting team wins
x – it ends with a draw
2 – the guests win

Double result – choosing a pick like this your chances of winning increase considerably up to 60-70% in some cases, but the winnings drop, which is a normal thing.
1x – the hosting team wins or it ends with a draw
x2 – the guests win or it ends with a draw
12 – either the hosting team wins or either the guests

Half time result – it represents the same thing as the Full time result, but the result chosen by you has to take place before the end of the first half.

Correct score – many fans use this type of bet, most of the times competing with friends to see who is better. It is easy, by choosing this bet one must correctly guess the score by the end of the match.

Half time / Full time – As the name implies, here you have to choose the result at half time and at full time alike, the odds being considerably higher that at Full Time result or Half Time result.
1/1 – the hosts lead to time break and win the match
1/x – the hosts lead to time break and it ends with a draw
1/2 – the hosts lead to time break, but the guests win the match
x/1 – tie at time break and the hosts win
x/x – tie at time break and tie at the end of the match
x/2 – tie at time break and the guests win
2/2 – the guests lead to time break and win the match
2/x – the guests lead to time break and it ends with a draw
2/1 – the guests lead to time break, but the hosts win the match

Total goals – This type of bet gives you the chance to choose how many goals will be scored within a match. You do not need to choose the exact number of goals, but over and under.

Over 2.5 goals – One must score a minimum of 3 goals (including) so as the bet to be a winning one
Under 4.5 goals – They should not score more than 4 goals (including) so as the bet to be a winning one

First goal scorer – 99% of the online bookmakers offer you the chance to choose the players that you think might score within a match, or which goal will be scored by that player.

Two or more goals scored -  is mostly the same thing as The first goal scorer, but the player chosen should succeed at least a brace withing the match.

Asian Handicap – This type of bet, as I have said in other articles, represents one of the keys of success. We will give some examples, but fell free to read more about Asian Handicaps by clicking here ->

1st Example:
Match: Belgium – Serbia
Odds 1×2: 1.53 – 4.00 – 6.00
Pick chosen: Belgium -1.0 Asian Handicap
Odd: 2.00

Choosing this bet means we need Belgium to win at a minimum difference of 2 goals. Still, if she wins at a difference of a single goal we have nothing to lose because the stake will be refunded. Observe the difference between the odd 1 (1.53) and Belgium -1.0 Asian Handicap (2.00), practically without risks.

2nd Example:
Match: Belgium – Serbia
Odds: Over / Under 2.5: 2.00 / 1.80
Pick chosen: Over 3.0 goals Asian Handicap
Odd: 2.67

Instead of Over 2.5 we have chosen Over 3.0 Asian Handicap. It mostly represents the same thing, the only difference is that if exactly 3 goals are scored, the bet would not be a winning one, but the stake will be refunded. As you can see, the winning can be a substantial one because the odd was high, it raised from 2.00 to 2.67.

Tie – The bet is refunded – this type of bet implies two options. Either the hosting teams wins or the guests. If the match ends at a draw, the stake will be refunded.

European Handicap – There are not too many differences between it and the Asian Handicap, just that the stake is not refunded. For example, at the example match above mentioned, on the pick Belgium -1.0 European Handicap, the stake is not refunded if Belgium wins at a difference of a single goal, the bet is thus lost.

                       Bets on goals

Besides those previously mentioned: Total goals and Asian Handicap on goals, there are other types of bets that fall in this category.

Result / Total goals – here you have to guess both the result of the match, 1, x or 2 and the number of goals ( For example, victory hosting team and Over 2.5 goals).

Total goals – Exact – this bet involves a higher degree of risk because you have to guess the exact number of goals that will be scored within a match.

Number of goals per match – like Over/Under, this type of bet has 3 options at most bookmakers, namely : Under 2 goals (0 or 1), 2-3 goals per match or Over 3 goals.

Both teams score – Yes/No – as the name implies, here you have to choose whether both teams score or not. The odds vary according to the teams at hand.

Team to score – this type of bet is different from the previous one because it implies 4 options:
Both teams – both teams have to score
None – the match has to end 0-0
Only the hosts – only the hosting team has to score
Only the guests – only the guest team has to score

First half – Number of goals – it is the same thing as Total goals, only that the options chosen are for the first half. For example: Over 0.5, Under 2.5 and so on.

Time of match goals – by choosing this type of bet you have to guess the sum of the minutes in which goals were scored. For example:
Over 104 minutes: one must score at least 2-3 goals in more than 140 minutes
120-140 minutes: the odd is higher at this type of bet
Under 140 minutes: just like in the first option

First team to score – this implies choosing the team that will open the score. You can even bet that neither of the teams score.

Last minutes goal – for example, the bookmaker will offer Goal after the 72:59 minute or No goal after the 72:59 minute.

First minutes goal – it represent the same thing as the previous type of bet, but here you bet on the first 30 minutes of the match.

Time of next match goal – you have to guess within which minutes the second goal is scored. For example: 1-10 minutes or 41-50.

Team to score last – the name says it all.

Attention !!! All these types of bets for the first half are also available for the second half.

                               Special bets

Tie win – the team chosen by you has to win the match without receiving a single goal.

Last win – this type of bet offers high odds. The team chosen has to receive goals only to make a comeback at the end of the match and then win.

First or second half win – here the team chosen has to win at least one of the halves. Pay attention not to mistake it with Tie or Full time result, because here if one team is lead to Time Break with 3-0 and the match ends with 3-1, the bet is a winning one, the team chosen by you won the first half.

Win both halves – this type of bet also offers tempting odds. The ream chosen has to win both halves.

Score both halves – this is a type of bet easy to understand. The team chosen has to score at least once in both halves.

Own goal – here you will have to bet on whether there will be an own goal scored, this bet is a winning one regardless of the team that scores it.

                            Corner bets

Total corners – this type of bet implies choosing the correct number of corners and you have three options:
Over 11 corners
Exactly 11 corners
Under 11 corners

Over/Under corners – this is simpler, you no longer have the precise option as in the previous bet. For example:
Over 10.5 corners
Under 10.5 corners

Total corners – Asian Handicap – this is the most recommended type of bet when it comes to corners because the stake is refunded. For example:
Over 11 corners
Under 11 corners
If there will be exactly 11 corners, you have nothing to lose because the stake will be refunded.

First half corners – Just like in the first case, you have 3 options, but only the corners from the first half will be taken into consideration.
